Top tip
— Make follow up calls to family and services to ensure that reconnection has been successful and get feedback on the service provided.
Where clients are escorted by staff on the journey, it’s worthwhile travelling with them to the service they have been referred to and to give staff there a brief handover.
For other clients, once they are back in their home country, arrange a time to call their family or the service they have been referred to ensure that they have arrived safely. If at all possible, it’s also worthwhile calling again after a few months later to get a further update on the client’s progress. This is also a good opportunity to seek feedback on how effective the service has been in preparing the client for reconnection.
